Repair or replace the tap?
A worn washer or a serviceable cartridge may be a straightforward repair. A damaged body, unsuitable replacement parts or repeated faults can make new tapware more practical. The age of a tap alone is not a diagnosis; the condition and availability of parts matter.
Panther’s tap repair and installation service can check whether the problem is in the tap itself, its connections or another part of the supply. A shower leak inside a wall needs a different investigation from a loose shower head.
What is included in each option?
| Option | Best compared when |
|---|---|
| Repair | The body is sound and suitable washers, seats or cartridges are available |
| You supply a mixer | The product matches the existing sink or basin and accessible connections |
| Supply and install | You want a standard product and installation quoted together |
These are alternative job prices. The supply-and-install band already includes installation; it is not an amount to add to the customer-supplied row. Premium tapware and proprietary cartridges can sit outside the standard allowances.

What makes a tap job more involved?
Tight cupboards, corroded fixings and non-working isolation valves can affect the work. Replacing a concealed shower mixer body may require opening the wall and coordinating waterproofing or tiling. Moving a tap means altering the pipework rather than swapping the visible fitting.
A new kitchen mixer should suit the sink, mounting hole, available space and water pressure. For wall-mounted tapware, check the in-wall body and trim compatibility; matching the finish alone is not enough.
Choosing tapware without overspending
Compare the product’s dimensions, warranty terms, available parts and water-efficiency label alongside its appearance. The Australian WELS information explains the water-rating labels used on relevant products. A higher purchase price does not automatically solve a pressure or pipework problem.
If a tap has suddenly lost flow while others work normally, describe that symptom before ordering a replacement. Read our water-pressure checks to distinguish one-fixture problems from whole-property issues.
What to send to Panther
Include a photo of the tap, the connections underneath if safely visible, and the proposed product model. Tell us whether it drips from the spout, leaks around the body, is stiff to operate or has poor flow. Mention any other small plumbing jobs so they can be scoped for the same visit.
