Tap Plumbing

Fix the Leak or Install Suitable New Tapware

A dripping tap may need a washer, cartridge, seal or seat repair. Water at the base or inside a cabinet can come from the tap body, flexible connectors or pipework rather than the outlet itself.

For a replacement, send the tap model and a photo of the fixture and connections where possible. Mounting holes, pressure requirements, clearances and isolation points can affect compatibility.

Leaking Tap Repairs

The failed part depends on the tap design. Traditional taps, mixers and ceramic cartridges are assessed differently, and water around the base may involve a connection below the fixture.

  • Washers and O-rings
  • Mixer cartridges
  • Tap seats and bodies
  • Flexible connections

Kitchen and Bathroom Tap Installation

Before installation, the tapware should be checked against the fixture, hole pattern, pressure requirements, clearances and existing water connections.

  • Kitchen mixers
  • Basin and bath tapware
  • Laundry taps
  • Compatibility checks

Outdoor and Utility Taps

Outdoor taps can fail at the valve, body, wall connection or supply line. Replacement may require support or pipework where the existing fitting is loose or corroded.

  • Balcony and courtyard taps
  • Wall connection repairs
  • New utility tap points

Tap Faults

Signs a Tap Needs Repair or Replacement

The location of the water helps identify whether the fault is inside the tap or in the connection

The Outlet Drips

A washer, cartridge, seat or internal seal may be worn.

Water Leaks Below the Fixture

The body, hose, valve or pipe connection may be leaking.

The Handle Is Stiff or Loose

Internal parts or the tap body may be worn or damaged.

New Tapware Does Not Fit

The fixture, holes, clearances or connections may not match the selected model.

What Happens Next

How We Handle Tap Repairs and Installation

  1. Describe the Fault or New Fitting

Send a photo of the tap and its connections, or the model details for proposed tapware. Tell us whether other fixtures have the same problem.

  2. Assess the Work

The plumber checks the tap type, leak location, fixture, water supply and compatibility of any proposed replacement.

  3. Carry Out the Agreed Work

The agreed repair or installation is completed, then the tap and connections are operated and checked for leaks.

  4. Check and Explain the Result

The work is checked, the outcome is explained and the work area is left as tidy as practical.

FAQs

Questions about tap repairs

Practical answers before you arrange the work

Why is my tap dripping?
The cause may be a worn washer, cartridge, seal or tap seat. The tap type needs to be identified before the correct repair can be confirmed.
Should I repair or replace the tap?
Repair is often practical when the body is sound and parts are available. Replacement may be preferable for a damaged, corroded or incompatible tap.
Can you install tapware I have purchased?
Yes, subject to compatibility with the fixture, hole pattern, pressure requirements, clearances and existing connections.
Will replacing the tap fix low water pressure?
Not always. A blocked outlet or cartridge may affect one tap, while a supply or pipework problem can affect several fixtures. Tell us which outlets have changed so the cause can be checked before new tapware is purchased.
