An existing gas point is the starting assumption

A straightforward connection assumes the new appliance suits the gas type, existing supply, location and installation requirements. The gas fitter still needs to check the setup, make the connection, test it and provide the applicable compliance documentation.

Panther’s gas plumbing service covers gas-fitting work such as connections, pipework and leak investigation. Send the appliance model before buying or booking if you are unsure whether it suits the existing installation.

What is outside a standard connection price?

Additional workWhy it needs its own scope
A new or larger gas lineLength, route, capacity and access differ between properties
Appliance conversionThe appliance and gas type must be compatible; parts may be model-specific
Cabinetry or bench changesThe opening and clearances may need another trade
Electrical alterationsA licensed electrician may be needed for the appliance supply
A new gas serviceDistributor connection work is different from internal gas fitting

The cooktop itself is not included in the existing-point connection band. The gas hot-water figure is a separate supplied-and-installed system option, not an extra to add to a cooktop job.

Gas leak investigation versus extensive pipe replacement

A small accessible fitting repair can fit a different budget from locating a fault under a building or replacing a long buried line. Agree on the investigation and initial repair scope, and how further work will be authorised if testing reveals a more extensive problem.

Testing is essential; a smell disappearing does not establish that a system is safe. Never try to locate a gas leak with a flame, tighten gas fittings yourself or repeatedly restart a faulting appliance.

What to do if you smell gas

Leave the area without operating switches or using a phone inside. From a safe outdoor location, call 000 for immediate danger or the gas distributor’s emergency number. Jemena’s safety information explains the response for its network. Arrange gas-fitting work once the immediate hazard has been addressed.

Before accepting a gas quote

Check that it identifies the appliance, gas type, connection or pipe route, testing and required documentation. Ask whether removal, disposal, access work and other trades are included. You can check the contractor licence through Service NSW.

Send Panther the appliance and site details, including a clear photo of the existing connection and model label. Do not disconnect an appliance to take the photo.
